Question Windows XP and Games

I used to love all the games out there for your computer. I have a collection of them. Every since I had my computer upgraded and put Win XP on it none of the games will work. The older games I have on CD won't work at all. The newer ones online and purchased won't load properly. At first I thought maybe it was a matter of corrupted files on some games. But all can't be that way. I even have trouble with screen savers. Has anyone encountered this? How do you fix it or am I doomed to play only solitaire for the rest of my life?
I don't have any problem running programs and such. I do occasionally get a message about 16 bit color, but not always.

I have Windows XP on both computers, and I haven't had any problems playing games on either one.

Dear lsnoozy you are not clear onto the points, what messages it shows when you try to play the game and your hardware specification. So be clear on the points to be noted. Anyway i would recomend you to reinstall the whole Operating System on to your PC from an unscratched cd of Windows Xp. I also suggest you to upgrade you it to Windows Xp SP2. If you still had the problem please call the person form whome you had buyed the system.
