Default USB Problems

I have a dell 8400 running windows XP service pack 3. The usb ports are not recognizing storage devices. Keyboard, Mouse and Printer is fine, but thumb drives and my camera return "Unrecognized Device" error. Anyone know why this might be happening and how to fix it?

Those devices should come with a CD that contains there own drivers. You should be able to find the drivers on the manufacture's website as well. Good Luck.

Default USB Problems

Hi Friend,

If you have a problem with a USB device, try these methods first:
A. Unplug and then plug in the device.
B. If the computer prompts you for a device driver, read the information that was included with the device, or visit the manufacturer's Web site to see whether a driver is available.
C. Run Windows Update to obtain the latest fixes for Windows XP. When this is complete, plug in the device to see whether it is installed correctly.

Thanks,
James

I had the same sort of problem on my computer, running XP as well. The problem was with the USB driver for the USB ports not the actual external device drivers. I went to the Microsoft site and updated my USB driver software from USB 1.0 to USB 2.0 My machine couldn't find a newer external hard drive until I did that. Anyway, it can find my new hard drive now, so I guess that was the problem.

I would say try to reinstall your motherboard drivers. In the motherboard installation disk you can find their the installer of your motherboard and all the chipset. Second option would be clean your PC and make sure all wires inside are securely attached. Go clean it up and good luck!

You need to reinstall your motherboard drivers. Or else, you can clean your PC and make sure all wires inside are securely attached.

You should try to reinstall the drivers for your motherboard according to me. Alternatively, you could also clean the PC and check the wiring.

If you connect any device with computer so that the computer find device registry file and dill file, if computer not find this file so that you show the error message. That mean your computer want a device software driver. If you are not install device drive so this not work for you. So first download sported driver.
