This is a good food for thought. Good to know guys and great of you to have opened this up. I have been working with my computer for a long time and yet I don't know the stuff inside it. It is good that you actually mentioned the meaning and uses for these hardware inside the case. A lot of people would tend to just get their hands on computers without even getting to know them.

Use SIW to check your memory type, it could be ddram or sdram, once verified, go out and buy one, open the memory module cover at the back of your laptop and install the new memory.

Random-access memory (RAM) is a form of computer data storage. Today, it takes the form of integrated circuits that allow stored data to be accessed in any order (i.e., at random). "Random" refers to the idea that any piece of data can be returned in a constant time, regardless of its physical location and whether or not it is related to the previous piece of data.

RAM or random access memory is a space in your operating system, application programs and data in current use are kept so that they can be quickly reached on the processor in your computer. RAM is much faster, to read and write than other types of storage on your computer, hard drive, floppy disk and CD-ROM. However, the data in RAM stays there only in the event that your computer is running. When you turn off the computer, the RAM loses its data. When you turn on the computer again, the operating system and other files are loaded into RAM, typically from the hard disk.
