Default Intel Vs. AMD

Hello all!

My first post here, but I'm very active over on bimmerwerz.com.

Anyway,

Im building a Dell for my parents and I want it to be very powerfull but not rediculous in price. I'm having difficulty picking 2 components...

1- The processor. Should I go with the Intel ® Core™2 Duo Processor E6400 (2.13GHz, 1066 FSB) or the AMD LIVE!™ Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core 5200+ (anyone know what the clock speed and FSB is for the AMD?)

I've heard good things from both, but according to a Cnet review, AMD blew Intel away.

2- Monitor. Dell has a Digital 20" Widescreen and a Digital "UltraSharp" 20" Widescreen too... the resolution was the same in the specs... is like another $120 worth it for the ultrasharp?

Thanks in advance...

Hey Kingo, myself personally am a fan of AMD. Have been since 1999

Intel has a tendency to be a few more bucks and really, someone who uses their machine for leisure likely wont see a different.

As for the monitors, i've ran Benq wide screen and Viewsonic, i'm not so impressed with the viewsonic

Why are you going with Dell though ? Why not build a generic system from your local small pc shop ?

I'm a 20 year old college student... I plan on building my own after i get out of school, but this is for my parents, and since I'm away at school, I wont be there to help them if something goes wrong. So basically Im probably going with Dell because of the service and support. However, I was at Best Buy and Gateway has the "GM5424" for $1,200 and $1400 with a service plan... Its loaded with basically everything.

BTW- Whats the FSB on the AMD processor (Athalon X2 5200+)? I've heard everywhere from 600 to 1800...

While the AMD X2 series was superior to Intel's Pentium-D line, the Core 2 Duo architecture changed everything and moved Intel solidly back into first place.

intel is generally better compared to AMD as it has better processing power, but AMD is a bit cheaper and it has good enough processing power.
