On Star
This new piece of technology that uses GPS is amazing to me. My mom recently told me how On Star sent her an e-mail to let her know that everything in her vehicle was working properly. Itps pretty crazy. Mom even told me how she feels like she could never run away from home because of her OnStar buddy.

My husband's brother is recovering from heart surgery and he has onstar. It's a real comfort to him to know that if he needs help it's right there with him. He loves it.

I don't have a vehicle with Onstar on it. I'm not sure if I would like it. I really don't care for all that extra electrical equipment. As long as my car drives, I'm fine with it. I don't even want electric seats. I'm not that lazy to move my own seat back. Plus, that's one more thing to break that you must pay to replace. I'm sure the map thing is really nice and also the email telling you what needs to be done to your car. It's always nicer to have someone (or thing) keep track of that stuff for you!

My mom's vehicle (a Chevy Tahoe) came with the service. Part of the agreement when they bought the vehicle was that it came with so many months of On Star free. She's still not sure if she'll keep it once the free period is over, but for now, it's kind of nice to have for security purposes.
The funny part (on their ends but not On Star's) is when my dad accidentally calls On Star while driving. I believe he was trying to find the cruise control when he ended up calling an On Star . . . three times.

I would love to have one of these! I've seen commercials for them, depicting accidents where the driver couldn't speak. Talk about a great feeling of security and safety. I wouldn't suggest it for a get away car though

I've seen my mom use hers just to make regular phone calls as well -- not just emergency ones to On Star. We were in a bad cell range area a couple of weeks ago, and she needed to contact my sister, so she pushed a button and started talking. It was kind of neat.

I think this is an awesome tool. As is being discussed in another thread, this could prove to be a life saver if you are stuck in a snowstorm. Between a cell phone and On Star, emergency personnel could triangulate the stranded person's coordinators and rescue them before something terrible happened.
