What steps are you taking to perform a hard reset?

Had a similar problem this weekend when trying to instal TomTom Nav3 with Blutooth on my 2210 ( with no Tomtom installation instructions in the box that I can see). After an hour I realised that it must have hung. After a requested Soft Reset, it behaved exactly like yours.
I followed the manual for a Hard Reset ( both the bottom far Left and Right buttons held in and Soft Reset held in for several seconds until the screen goes completely blank.)
This took several attempts - probably due to the required contortions to hold down all three and still see the screen. Checked it was ok by attempting to power on. This fails - it is meant to since it disables the battery. A Soft Reset then brought it all back up again. Big sigh of relief.
First time in 18 months of daily use, I've had to do a hard reset. Good job I had a fairly recent back-up but I'm still unamused. And still trying to work out what to do next time. Bill E

I have exactly the same problem on my 2210. I've been using TTN3 & Bluetooth GPS for 2 months now.
Yesterday I docked my iPAQ and it locked up. A soft reset did not help.
I performed a hard reset and then restored from the previous days backup.
The problem is that every time I do a restore the reset screen comes and stays. I've done about 5 hard reset/restore cycles now. It looks like all is lost. So much for backups.
The iPAQ looks ok after a hard reset and no restore. I'm sure I load stuff manually but I really can't be doing with this. What happens if I was away from my PC for a few days.
Time to switch to a Palm or something else.

As I'm looking to become a 'first time buyer', this seems to indicate Tom tom with palm, or Navman with an Ipaq, and not the combination above...or have I missed something?

Welcome to our forums sbashford.
There is something in your backup which is causing it to hang. I've had similar problems before and it seemed to be TomTom that was causing it but it doesn't do it any more.

I have exactly the same restore problem after installing Tomtom 3 on my IPAQ 2210. It doesn't come back up after a restore and a soft reset - just hangs. I have been playing with this problem trying to narrow it down. I can define the failure easily and would be interested if anyone else can confirm they get the same. Perform the following:
1. Do a hard reset so you have your IPAQ exactly as new
2. Install Tomtom fully including any soft resets needed
3. Perform a backup
4. Do a hard reset
5. Restore backup from step 3
6. After restore do a soft reset as normal
7. IPAQ hangs on boot-up
Needless to say you should have a restorable backup available before you start so you can do this test and then go back to normal afterwards. Restorable=one before TomTom was installed :-)
I have tried this using ActiveSync AND IPAQ Backup and they both do the same thing.
Furthermore, If you perform steps 1 and 2 then uninstall JUST TomTom GPS then carry on with steps 3-6 it all works fine. I haven't got a GPS devide so I won't miss that functionality but was toying with the idea of getting one so need to sort this first. I love TomTom but I also love restoring my backups!
I am going to look into it further but, for today, am tired of doing hard resets, backups, restores and installing TomTom. I have some ideas for workarounds so will keep playing.
Charlie: You say you don't have this problem anymore? What exact version of TomTom have you got? Mine is 3.00(402). Did you install any updates at anytime?

I've got v3.07 now but haven't done a back up for some time. Are you using iPAQ backup in the programs folder or through Activesync?

Not necessarily. The problem could have arisen for me due to the combination of GPS drivers, 3rd party addons etc that I had installed. Not a common problem at all so TomTom with iPAQ is still a great choice.
