5555h won't activesync or connect
My IPAQ has just stopped activesyncing altogether. Activesync does not start when I place it in the cradle (tried on two PC's with two different cradles). The status displayed is 'not connected'.
It seemed to stop working after I was fiddling with it trying to remove/uninstall a program called EGRESS (a RSS reader that I was trying out the demo).
I've done a few soft resets and it's not helped. Anyone got any ideas?

I've done a number of soft resets and now a hard reset. Activesync version is 3.7 (build 3083).
Windows XP says that the 'a USB device has malfunctioned and windows does not recognise it.'

Matt,
You don't have the latest version of ActiveSync.
Disconnect your IPAQ
removing the version of Activesync you have
reboot your PC
Download and install the latest version from http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmob...tivesync37.mspx
Install this version
Reboot your PC
Connect your IPAQ
Setup a new partnership

Check Device Manager for any "Unknown Devices" with yellow exclamation marks next to them and remove them.

I've upgraded to the new version on both PC's and it makes no difference. The device is not recognised.
I suspect that my iPAQ is damaged somehow.

Thanks for your help.
I found a device under windows CE devices that had an exclamation mark. Uninstalled it. Windows then detected a new device called HP USB SYNC. I rebooted to make sure all was well. Checked again. Windows says the device is working properly.
Still Activesync cannot detect the iPAQ.
If if go into Activesync on the iPAQ and try from there it also does not work. It lists the errors as 'UNABLE TO CONNECT. VERIFY YOUR DIALUP OR PROXY SETTINGS ARE CORRECT AND TRY AGAIN.' I suspect this just the default error message.
Quick question - does using USB charging ever cause a problem? I have selected this to be on.

I've managed to get it to establish a connection wirelessly but because I had to reinstall activesync I've lost all my partnership information. I can't sync without a partnership. Is there any way I can establish a partnership WITHOUT using the iPAQ in the cradle?!

I've never known it to cause a problem.
Click on the FILE menu in Activesync then CONNECTION SETTINGS and make sure ALLOW USB is ticked and is available.

no I didn't. I wasn't aware you could backup active sync partnerships.
