Default PDA refuses to sync to PC

My Ipaq 1930 has been happily connecting to my PC since I bought it over 12 months ago.
Now, all of a sudden it simply refuses to sync.
When i plug in the usb cable to pc it registers that it is the HP ipaq and tries to sync but says there is nothing connected.
I have reinstalled the sync software on my pc but to no avail.
I thought it might be the cable damaged but im not sure and cannot see how.
Any idea's ??

Are you able to try it on another PC?

I could take the software and cable to work and try it there.
Are you thinking it may be a physical fault ?

I would recommend you try another usb connection (dont use a hub) then try it on another PC, activesync can be funny at times. What version of ativesync do you have?

what is really bugging me is the fact that it has been working perfectly for over 12 months then suddenly decides to start playing up for no apparent reason.
I have a bank of 4 usb ports on a card in the front of my pc which is where it has always been.
Maybe i'll try it plugged into one on the back which are on the main motherboard

I took my pda, cable and software to work today and managed to install the activesync software and get it all up and running no problem at all.
So...the problem is obviously not incurable but i am absolutely stumped what to do next.
The settings in the pda are all fine so it is my home pc which is creating the problem.
