1. Motorola Q

Ladies and gentlemen, meet the Q. Don't let its thin frame fool you: there's a lot of fight in that sleek form factor. It runs Windows Mobile 5. It boasts a 1.3-megapixel camera. It's an on-the-go multimedia/productivity champ, with EV-DO support, solid call quality, a full keyboard, and Bluetooth. We only wish it did Wi-Fi, but the Palm Treo can't do that, either. Speaking of the Treo, the Q just bumped it off this list.

2. TiVo Series2 DT (80 hours)

The most popular digital-video recorder in the world just got better. Thanks to dual TV tuners, Tivo's Series2 DT lets you record two programs simultaneously. All the things that made it so popular in the first place are also still there: an easy-to-master UI, nice home-networking features, and a sleek look. If 80 hours of storage just doesn't cut it, there's also a 180-hour model available.

3. Toshiba Gigabeat S MES30VW

Behold, the rare gadget that actually lives up to--if not surpasses--the hype. We've been waiting for the Toshiba Gigabeat S Portable Media Center to get here since we saw it at CES, and now that it's here, it delivers. We're talking excellent sound, landscape video playback, support for tons of file types and subscription services, and even compatibility with the Xbox 360. This is the new hard-drive multimedia portable to beat.

4. Sling Media Slingbox

Want to watch TiVo'd shows at a coffee shop, the ball game on a plane, or C-Span at a sports bar? All you need is a Windows XP laptop or Windows Mobile handheld, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and the Slingbox. This one-of-a-kind device streams live TV or anything on your DVR to a laptop, desktop, or handheld. Similar products exist, but none are as cheap (Sony's LF-X1 LocationFree TV starts at $1,000) or easy (Orb requires a TV tuner card) as the $249 Slingbox. That's a small price to pay for making your living room mobile.

5. Creative Zen V Plus
It's hard to find something we don't like about Creative's tiny new machine. Despite its pocketable size, this machine is packed with video playback, a photo browser, line-in recording, FM radio, WMA subscription compatibility, great battery life, and awesome sound quality. But you may want to think twice if you have huge thumbs, because its small joystick may be hard to control.

6. Sony PSP

The Sony PlayStation Portable was the portable gadget of 2005. If you haven't gotten yet, you must not have seen one in action. The screen alone will make you salivate. So much more than a portable gaming console, it also plays music and movies. Not only does it look hot, it also has outstanding sound and graphics, a built-in Memory Stick Duo slot, and Wi-Fi. And if you already have one, read our PSP megafeature to unleash your PSP's full potential.

7. Dell XPS M1710
Now this is gaming. At its highest-end configuration, Dell's 17-inch gaming beast comes loaded with Intel's 2.16GHz Core Duo CPU, Nvidia's new GeForce Go 7900 GTX graphics-processing unit with 512MB of dedicated memory, and a honking hard drive (100GB) that's blazing fast (7,200rpm). The result, quite simply, is the best gaming laptop we've ever seen. But it costs a pretty penny: the highest-end configuration prices out to $4,215, while basic configurations start at $2,600.

8. Microsoft Xbox 360

The wait for next-gen gaming is over, but Microsoft's Xbox 360 has some growing pains to work out. Namely, overheating, crashing issues, and a hefty $399 price tag. The plus side? It offers the best networked gaming experience we've seen, integration with Windows Media Center PCs, and backward-compatibility with some Xbox games. But you may want to hold off on buying one right now --or until the PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii show us what they've got.

9. Panasonic TH-42PHD8UK

We still give Sony's gorgeous KDS-R60XBR1 the nod in terms of image quality, but that $5,000 price tag is mighty intimidating. That's why we've bumped Sony's 1080p set in favor of another Editors' Choice pick, Panasonic's 42-inch TH-42PHD8UK. Keep in mind that it's a bare-bones set: you'll need an external HDTV tuner, external speakers, and a stand for it. But it offers clean video and deep blacks, and it's a great deal at $2,500.
