Default Satellite Radio

More than 100 static-free (and mostly commercial-free) channels of music, news, and sports at their fingertips. That's the reason millions of people are spending $10 or so a month on radio service that is beamed from a satellite to receivers in their cars and homes. Now satellite radio is becoming even more portable, with new battery-operated personal radios that are small and light.

Delphi's MyFi XM2Go, the first personal satellite radio has a suggested retail price of $300. It receives signals from XM Satellite Radio, one of the two satellite radio providers.

MyFi XM2Go is best suited for commuters and travelers, and in homes with rooms that have unobstructed access to the southern sky. But if you intend to wear one of these outdoors while walking or jogging, you may find overcoming its reception problems not worth the hassle. You'll also need an enthusiast's mindset to surmount the MyFi's small but nagging collection of design quirks. With several competitors in the offing, it's probably worth holding off a bit until you can truly comparison-shop.

Sirius or XM...is one better than the other...or are they two different formats?I haven't listened to any satellite radio yet but it sounds interesting.I suppose each provider has its advantages.I like the idea of a battery operated, portable, personal satellite radio. Now its time to comparison-shop.....

I think (someone correct me if I'm wrong) that XM Radio is less expensive than Sirius. You will need to check and see what your reception is like in certain areas, though. I used to have XM Radio and found that I couldn't get some of the stations when I drove through certain areas.

Is the reception affected by the weather...like fog or snow...sometimes tv satellite isn't as good if its foggy or during a snowstorm.

That's really quite a difference in cost. Is that monthly?...what do you mean by better quality...the programs or the actual sound?

Our daughter and son in law have a sirus radio and they live in the boonies. Anyway the 100.00 is not a monthly deal.. I think that the 100.00 is what they paid for the actual radio or maybe the set up fee. But I know they don't pay anywhere's near that much a month. I really don't remember what they pay, though. They have 3 children and the kids love the disney radio stations and other stations like that.

oh...so it sounds like all one has to do is get the radio and the programming is free...does the radio have to be activated--like a cell phone?
