Ultra High Performance high intensity discharge, the lamp technology used in most consumer grade LCD, DLP, and LCoS RPTV's and front projectors. The lamp has a small (typically less than 1/2 inch diameter) bulb containing two electrodes with a gap of about a millimeter and produces a very intense near point source of light. Mercury vapor under high pressure is used to achieve the best spectral characteristics for the light.
