Post What you need to know about inkjet printer resolution:

According to Computer Shopper, the resolution refers to the number of dots that a printer can lay down in a 1x1 inch square. Theoretically, this means that the bigger the number, the better the resolution. Unfortunately, manufacturers, according to Computer Shopper, tend to inflate their numbers, so check out an actual printing from the machine before you buy it.

Check out computershopper.com. They've got some good ratings. As far as the "best" goes, every techie has his own opinion.

There are two types of photo printer mechanisms, which are widely used today: inkjet and dye sublimation. Most people do not pay much attention to the difference, but are completely different technologies. However, the technology inkjet is more widely used.
