Default Receivers that are under $500

I was looking to get an onkyo receiver for my system at home and was wondering which one to go with I noticed the NC-500 and its price point was not too bad.

At around $400 dollars plus shipping and tax and all that stuff it still didn't seem like too bad of a deal.

My question to the rest of the world is who might be better? Are there receivers out there that cost less than $500 dollars that I can get which do the same job essentially as the NC-500?

If you have any information on this or have used the NC-500 please let me know what I can do or where I can go to get one of these. Thanks.

I really appreciate all your help

I don't know much about receivers but I do know you get what you pay for. Don't go buy a cheap receiver just to save a couple hundred dollars. if you are trying to put together a rockin' Home Theatre System you don't want to skimp on any single part or the end product might not be as good as you expected.

I may be wrong but the reciever is suppose to be pretty important .. isnt' it?

"You get what you pay for" isn't always true. I'm unfortuately not an expert on receivers in particular, but a lot of audio components cost as much as they do because of the name. Names don't mean anything, performance does. Just because something is cheaper doesn't mean it doesn't have the potential to greatly outperform the more expensive component.

Where have you been shopping around? I've discovered that just about everything can be found on E-Bay for much less than retail, even new in box.

Have you had good luck buying technical things on ebay? I haven't had much experience with ebay so I really wouln't know how to go about checking out good quality on ebay. I think I would probably have to start shopping for saies and check out the merchandise myself cause I am just too nervous about giving up all my money on something I haven't seen physically. Of course, that's just me cause I'm me.
