Red face Help with scanner broken by toddler son

About a year ago my older son, who was 2 years old at the time, managed to break the cover off of my Hewlett Packard scanner. It has not worked since. Is there a way to get it working again? Can the cover be reattached?

I don't understand how breaking the cover off can render the scanner inoperable. Can someone shed light on this?

It's a shame that the scanner isn't working. I have many family pictures taken many years ago that mean a lot to me and I would love to be able to save them on my computer to show my children when they get older.

Note to self: Keep my 1, 2 & 3 year olds out of my office or risk damaging expensive computer equipment!

If you're using it to archive important photos, just buy a new one. You'll get much better quality out of that for a relatively low cost compared to the quality of a 3+ year old scanner.

Can you recommend a good scanner that isn't too expensive? My husband purchased ours probably 5 years ago or maybe even before that.

I have a HP 3 in 1 printer, scanner, and copier that I really love. I suppose it would make a difference on what you would use it for as to what price you want to pay. But I hear good things about HP. My son in law, our resident computer expert, says he really things HP printers are a good deal. And of course he just wouldn't steer his favorite mother in law wrong. Would he? I love him.

Cool HP seems to have won

I think I would trash the 3 year old scanner as well---the Hp seems to have won both in function and price.
