Default Long Scan Times

I have been scanning with the 4990 for about 5 months now and it's been fine, until today. I scan 35mm, b&w, film at 3200 res. I know that's high but I need the scans to be 9x14 at 300dpi in the end. I just use the dust removal function. Usually for 4 strips of 6 frames it takes about 28 minutes. Today, it says 358 minutes. I've tries dumping stuff to make more memory room on my HD, closing all applications, restarting my computer... I don't know what else could be happening. The time may start out at 20 minutes, but then just start jumping up, 56min., 99 min., and up to 300 minutes. I cannot wait that long to scan 24 frames. I called epson and spoke to someone who had no idea. I did install the newest driver though. I would appreciate any and all help on this.

Use preference settings. Increase the virtual memory to speed up the system process. What is your Ram speed? Are you scanning directly or after preview? Because scanning after preview takes time.
