Default Motorola licenses TTPCom technology to Marvell

Marvell Technology Group Ltd. has announced that it has reached an agreement with Motorola to license Motorola's TTPCom cellular protocol software stack.

According to Marvell, this agreement will enable them to deliver a comprehensive hardware and software platforms for 3G smartphone manufacturers.

"As the protocols stack is the heart of the phone's communications engine, it is critical to Marvell's strategy of providing a complete smartphone platform to our customers." said Sam Arditi, senior vice president and general manager of Marvell's Cellular and Handheld Business Group. "The Marvell PXA family of communications processors has been running the Motorola TTPCom protocol stack for years. We know the code and are excited to quickly provide a complete and customised 3G solution directly to our OEM partners, enabling lower cost and faster time-to-market."

The software stack Marvell is licensing enables dual-mode, low-power, ultra low cost 2.5G and 3G cellular handsets. Marvell's Cellular and Handheld Business Group has worked with Motorola TTPCom technology for several years, porting the TTPCom stack to the PXA800 and PXA900 series of communications processors. With this agreement, Marvell said, they will be able to provide customised solutions for its wireless communications processors and platforms.

"Motorola is committed to lowering development costs and driving industry-wide standards for mobile devices," said Tony Milbourn of Motorola's TTPCom Product Group. "I am very pleased that Marvell's Cellular and Handheld Business Group has chosen to continue to use our best-in-class 3GPP protocol stack, thereby reducing complexity and increasing speed-to-market for its solutions."
