Gainclone is a term commonly used to describe a type of audio amplifier made by do it yourselfers, or individuals interested in DIY audio. It is a design based on high-power integrated circuits and in particular LM3875 from National Semiconductor. The idea was made popular after the introduction of the Gaincard amplifier from the Japanese high end audio brand 47 Labs.
