Tivo Privacy Issues
Ok, I'm all for free enterprise and totally understand the competitive nature of it. After all, competition amongst vendors help keep costs down and offers continuingly evolving features. That's what the game is all about, who can produce the best product at the most reasonable price. But does that mean our whole lives have to be under a microscope? Tivo has annonced a new division, "TiVo Audience Research and Measurement (ARM)". This division offers advertisers and agencies a, "second-by-second data and analysis on DVR viewing of advertising content". Basicially what this means is that now you can't even watch commercials privately. Someone is tracking even the commercials you watch. Ok, now here's somethng for them to consider. Just because there's a commercial on my tv, doesn't mean I'm watching it. I use commercials as an opportunity to throw in another load of laundry, stack the dishwasher or return a phone call. So how is this going to give an accurate account of what commercials we are watching? What are your views on this?
