the science behind skipping vhs's
When i was younger (yesssssss... younger *shiftey eyes*), i watched a goofy movie over and over and over.
now when i put it in, the screen moves up and down, as if it's a movie reel.
what is the science behind this kind of occurance? does it just wear down or something>
a goofy movie...

which movie?
it's so sad!
cuz if you didn't love it a lot you wouldn't watch it very much.
but the fact that you love it so much and watch it a lot means it's destroyed.
sad sad sad.

I would recommend finding a DVD of the same film. Lots of old movies are now out on DVD's.

Good point, Desiree. Libraries are underused these days.

VHS tapes will actually wear out over time, especially if they have been played a lot. Just like a audio cassette tape. The technology is similar for both mediums. I think that may be one reason way CDs and DVDs have become so popular. Not to mention the video quality is usually better; the sound quality is better...............

So true . . . I'm amazed still at the fragility of even these devices, though. You have to be careful not to scratch them even a little bit or you sacrifice your movie. But they still beat vHS out by a long ways. I'm waiting for a more durable film device to make its way on the market.

Wouldn't that be great -- buying a movie and knowing that it will be the last time you will have to buy it unless it got thrown away or lost somehow???
