Default What is VOIP?

Voice Over Internet Protocol is what VOIP stands for and is basically allowing people to make phone calls and such over the internet rather than by traditional phone lines.

I mean you could think of it as being put on the phone lines and some of the internet still runs via phone lines but not really.

The protocols behind the internet are the same ones that are sending people e-mails daily, and allowing people to get online via their cell phones.

But VOIP just allows voice calls over the internet basically.

As to date I am not sure if this is being taxed or anything but it could very well be.

Hope that helps and if you have further information on this subject please let me know thanks!!!

There are a lot of advertisements for using those VOIP services on the Internet. I always see them pop up online.

VOIP is not yet taxed, but there's no doubt that it will be eventually.

Default Equipment you need for VOIP

A high speed Internet connection is required. This can be through a cable modem, or high speed services such as DSL or a local area network. You can hook up an inexpensive microphone to your computer and send your voice through a cable modem or connect a phone directly to a telephone adaptor.

Which are the companies offering this service? Do Vonage and Net2Phone qualify as VOIP? We have Vonage and we can't say enough good things about it. It's wonderful to be able to call anywhere in the country for only $25 a month. They even have a few European countries that are also included in the monthly price. For other countries, it's usually only $0.10 per minute, which is a bargain.
